Auto Shanghai - Technology-empowered Geely enters the 4.0 era with car production capacity on steady rise

2021 April 19th, Shanghai. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) showcased its commitment to an electric future at the Shanghai Auto Show by vowing to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission battery-electric vehicles, hybrid electrified models and low carbon industry partnerships across its brand portfolio.

The electrification initiative came as Geely brands unveiled new zero and low-emission models at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Geely Auto, the Group’s mass market brand showcased its flagship CMA-based SUV, the Xingyue L. Since last year, the Geely Auto brand has entered its “Innovative Geely 4.0 era” to develop and launch new models based on advanced modular vehicle architectures. Geely Groups advanced modular vehicle architectures BMA, CMA, and SEA were developed from the onset to support electrification and pure electric powertrain options, allowing all products utilizing them to be offered with electrified power options. The Xingyue L will later be offered with an electrified powertrain option in due course.

Geometry, the mass market pure electric vehicle brand launched its new extended range version of the Geometry A at the auto show. The Geometry A Pro offers users 600km pure electric range with a new NCM523 lithium battery and 150kW/310Nm e-motor. Since launching in 2019, the Geometry brand has unveiled a new model every year, with A and C models currently on sale in the Chinese market. The brand has plans to export the Geometry C later this year to select global partners.

Lynk & Co unveiled their newest plug-in hybrid variant of the Lynk & Co 05 at the Shanghai Auto Show. With this latest release, Lynk & Co now offers a fully electrified range of vehicles, including Plug-in Hybrids and Mild-Hybrids. In addition, Lynk & Co also showcased the Scalable Product Architecture for the first time that will be used by a future Lynk & Co product to be unveiled later this year with an electrified powertrain.

Geely Holding’s newest premium electric vehicle brand, Zeekr was unveiled to the media days ahead of the Shanghai Auto Show and brought its first model, the Zeekr 001 to the exhibition floor for its first official public event. Developed on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the flagship model offers over 700km of pure electric range and a high-performance package wrapped in technology.

Volvo Cars brought its newest XC40 Recharge to the auto show, the brand’s first pure electric model. The Swedish brand has stated it will only sell pure battery-electric models from 2030 and have announced the launch of its second pure electric model, the C40.

Polestar, the electric performance car brand, showcased an expanded Polestar 2 model range.  The new versions widen the appeal of the brand’s first all-electric performance fastback, bringing Polestar 2 to new price points whilst maintaining an uncompromised and high level of design detailing, ensuring all versions of Polestar2 are just as attractive and enjoyable.  Three powertrains are available while a simplified option pack structure ensures customers can easily create their perfect Polestar 2.

In addition to the new electrified products showcased by Geely brands at the Shanghai Auto Show, Geely Holding is also backing programs which accelerate the drive to an electrified future including:

  • Technology partnerships with systems-providers including Baidu and Tencent which will promote low-carbon digital applications for new vehicles
  • Partnership with Foxconn to provide EV OEM and automotive consulting services to new brands entering the market.
  • Polestar 0 project, a challenge to create a truly climate neutral Polestar car by 2030, without relying on offsetting by planting trees.
  • LEVC will expand its low-emission taxis and light commercial vehicle market presence in the UK and wider European union.
  • Farizon Auto will further develop zero-emission and electrified power in the medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle market
  • Lotus will continue development of its Evija electric hypercar and in due course announce its route to wider electrification.
  • The new powertrain business to be created from the internal combustion engine operations of Volvo Cars and Geely Auto will produce next-generation hybrid electric engines for Geely Holding brands, and also for external customers.
